Unity : An unexplored universe
Ever dream of making a video game all by yourself..?? I am quite sure most of us have dream of it….as of the few things that we all in common making a game all by yourself is definitely the one. But before we start this expedition the first thing that comes in our minds is definitely – How am gonna make it..?? Most of us search the net for the answer and get the one name UNITY 3D. But unlike the solution it appears more like a question as what now , how to use it.
Well i am here to help you out of all your dilemma and to get you started with your first game development and believe me you are gonna love it and it will change your thinking regarding the game development for sure.
So, let’s get started…..
Step wise Guide for Unity development
First things first, what are the things you gonna need :-
PC with system configurations:-
- OS: Windows 7 SP1+, 8, 10; Mac OS X 10.8+.
Windows XP & Vista are not supported; and server versions of Windows & OS X are not tested.
- GPU: Graphics card with DX9 (shader model 2.0) capabilities. Anything made since 2004 should work.
Additional Platform development requirements:-
- iOS: Mac computer running minimum OS X 10.9.4 version and Xcode 6.x.
- Android: Android SDK and Java Development Kit (JDK).
- Windows 8.1 Store Apps / Windows Phone 8.1: 64 bit Windows 8.1 Pro and Visual Studio 2013 Update 2+.
- WebGL: Mac OS X 10.8+ or Windows 7 SP1+ (64-bit editor only)
After you have installed UNITY on your system the first thing that it asks is for a unity account(don’t panic it’s free for personal use).So just visit http://unity3d.com/ and get yourself a unity ID.
Now login with the unity ID and the first screen you will get will be like :-
The unity presents you with the dialog where it asks you about the name of the project the destination of the project and the type of the project you are going to create i.e 2D or 3D. You can select the type which suits your game type that is if you game involves all the 3 axis(X,Y,Z) or uses the depth of the screen you should select 3D otherwise 2D would be sufficient for the game.
Now after you are done with the name, location and type of the project you are presented with this screen:-
As you can see the two components directional light and main camera are already given in the scene. You can play with the camera settings to get the view you want in your game and the directional light defines the shadow and highlight region of the space. But without the introduction of a plane it will be really difficult to see the difference with the camera and light adjustments.
So to include a plane inside the space go to>GameObject>3D Object>Plane.
After selecting the plane your screen will look like :-
So now you have successfully included the plane inside your game space.
Similarly you can include other 3D objects and play with their physics.Believe me it will a real fun and you will love the experience. Now as you have learnt the basic of unity, now it’s your turn to try it out and please do comment your opinions and doubts.
